Wk 3 - Shopping with my "Second Life"!
I've only heard about this virtual avatar world called 'Second Life'.
However, after today's EIR lesson, I was required to create a Second Life account and would be able to experience it for myself!
I downloaded the file, logged in, and i was transported to this place called the 'Welcome Island'.

There were many signboards around greeting me as it was my first visit. There were many other avatars around too, however, no one responded though I tried to talk to them...

I could even fly up into the sky by pressing the 'page up' key on the keyboard!
I thought that I would be able to find the shopping mall/market place here, however, I couldn't. I found out that the marketplace is available on the Second Life website. So, I logged out of the system and went to check out the marketplace website!

Online shopping at SecondLife Marketplace
I would want my avatar to look pretty and look good.
So I clicked on 'apparel' from the long list of things they offer. (There are all sorts of things from a variety of different categories! E.g. Animals, Gadgets and even Vehicles.)

The home page for the 'apparels' section provides a wide range of clothing choices!
I had to take quite awhile to actually choose something I want!
In Second Life, they use a currency called the Linen Dollars, which I am not very sure on how to earn them. Perhaps I'll find out more as I explore this more.
I browsed through a few things and I am guessing that these items for sale in the marketplace are actually designed and created by some creative and IT savvy Second Life users themselves! I am just inferring from what I read in the descriptions of the items.
These are the things I would put in my shopping cart after browsing or 'window shopping' in the marketplace for quite awhile...

1. !!KKBB!! Tifani Dress - Black, L$5.
Such an elegant looking dress for a price so low.
I want my avatar to be in this dress. Oh my!

2. Grey high heel stilettos L$1.. ONLY!
Where can you find nice shoes this cheap in real life?

3. Grand Piano with 15 music pieces L$280
I have a strong interest in playing a piano, but I only have a small keyboard at home. It'll will be awesome to be able to purchase a grand piano like this! At L$280, it's counted as very affordable compared to real life.
That concludes my "Shopping Trip" in Second Life.
It was fun trying to choose and decide on what things to buy, because there's just too many!
I am surprised about the variety of items that the website offer.
If only shopping in real life can be as convenient (the things purchased would be TELEPORTED to your avatar immediately wow!) and as affordable.
But I guess this can only happen in the virtual world...
